A pilot study subsequently conducted by Holst in collaboration with Mette Zander at Hvidovre Hospital between September 1999 and October 2000 indicated that continuous subcutaneous infusions of synthetic GLP-1 over 6 weeks into patients with quite severe type 2 diabetes dramatically improved their blood sugar control, lowered glycated haemoglobin levels and decreased their body weight
